AI TRAINING VERSUS AI ENABLEMENT
UPDATED AUGUST 2026

What is the difference between AI training and AI enablement?

AI training teaches people about AI. AI enablement changes how they work with it day to day. Training is a session with an end; enablement is ongoing support built into the job, so people keep using AI well after any course is over. Enablement is where behaviour actually changes.

Training is upstream and finite: explain the concepts, show the tools, run the exercises. It is necessary but easy to forget, because it happens away from the real work.

Enablement is downstream and continuous: prompts, practice and feedback in the flow of the actual job, so the new way of working becomes the default. The strongest programmes treat training as the on-ramp and enablement as the road.

Which does an organisation need, training or enablement?

Both, in sequence. Training gets people started; enablement makes it stick. If you only fund training, expect the effect to fade within weeks.
