Do AI certifications prove capability?
Not on their own. An AI certification proves someone completed a course and passed a test at one moment. It does not prove they can improve their real work with AI today, and because the tools move quickly, a certificate can be out of date within months of being earned.
Certifications are useful as a signal of effort and a shared vocabulary. The problem is what they measure: knowledge in an artificial setting, frozen at the date of the exam. That is a weak proxy for whether the work actually changed.
The stronger evidence is demonstrated capability, a record of real tasks a person can now do better with AI, verified and kept current. A certificate says what someone once knew; a capability record shows what they can do now.
They can motivate and give structure. Just do not mistake them for proof of capability. Pair them with evidence from real work so you are measuring ability, not attendance.
